In this lesson you will study the account of the child Moses through the faith and cunning of his mother. She proved to be a woman of destiny by helping to fulfill God's purpose for her son. By doing so she fulfilled God's plan for her life.
The important word to remember in this story is FAITH. There was no visible reason for her to do what she did. The book of Hebrews says it was by FAITH that she hid the boy child. By FAITH she knew he was no ordinary baby. By FAITH she was not afraid of the king's proclamation. All of this means that she believed God had a reason for the birth of Moses. She believed God had a design for his life, and she was not afraid to disobey the royal order so that God's plan would be fulfilled. The scripture does not say that Moses' mother had any idea what that specific destiny was, but she only knew there was a design of God to be accomplished.
As you study this story, keep in mind that you too have a destiny in God. The key word for you is FAITH. You must BELIEVE you are an important element in God's overall plan to reveal Jesus to a lost and dying world.
BACKGROUND
The Egyptians held the Hebrews in slavery for hundreds of years. The Pharaoh had instructed the Hebrew midwives to kill all boy babies born to the Israelites. Due to the midwives fear of God the Pharaoh's orders were not carried out and the Israelites continued to multiply. A second order was given by the Pharaoh that all boy babies be put to death by throwing them into the river.

BEGINNING TO FULFILL GOD'S PLAN
All theologians do not completely agree on Moses' mother's name, but we know that she accomplished a great destiny by her bold actions. Her role in Moses' life fulfilled all God had in His heart for her life.
Exodus 2:1, 2a
What three things had she done to begin fulfilling her role?

Life was difficult during the Hebrews' period of captivity. Marrying and having children must have been a great challenge. Modern medicine has discovered that the ancient Egyptians used a form or birth control still widely practiced today. It caused babies already conceived to be aborted. With this knowledge available to them along with the proclamation of the Pharaoh to throw boy babies into the river, this woman and her Levite husband still chose to have a child. Regardless of the circumstances, Moses' mother and father felt God's call to marry and have children.
Put yourself in the same situation of Moses' mother for a moment and try to imagine what it would be like to have a child during those hard times. How do you think that you would have felt?

Moses' mother hid the child for three months because she was a loving mother who did not want her son to die. What other reasons does scripture say she had? Exodus 2:1-3; Heb. 11:23

. CAREFUL PREPARATION
The time came when Moses' family could no longer hide him. What did Moses' mother do to insure the future of her son?
Exodus 2:3-4
Great care was taken by this mother to provide for her baby boy, as she lovingly performed each task, picking just the right basket, carefully painting it with tar and pitch, making sure there were no leaks. Finally the day came. She wrapped him in a blanket and made him ready for his life's journey. While she performed these tasks, this child, Moses, had a divine purpose. She did not know how God would do it, but she knew in her heart that he would be safe in the hands of God.
Preparation is very important in fulfilling God's plan for your life. The Word of God says that it is essential for us to "grow up into Christ." Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things _____________ ______________ into Him who is the Head, that is, Christ." Eph. 4:15
"Like newborn babies crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may ______________ _______________ in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good." 1 Peter 2:2-3
